Who is this for?

This Summer Institute is designed for practicing leaders in the church who have begun conversations and experiments in missional church and seek to engage with other leaders in the practical issues of innovating missional change in their contexts of local churches and judicatory systems.

What will take place?

  • You will bring to the event your own experiences in missional leadership. Using case studies and an action-reflection approach, we will create a learning community that will model practical ways of missionally engaging your context.
  • We have brought together a team of people, Alan Roxburgh, Scott Cormode, Eddie Gibbs, Mark Lau Branson and Richard Beaton, who will work with attendees to address the issues of the skills and resources needed for missional practice.
  • Along with this experienced team we have invited Walt Kallestad from the Community of Joy to participate with us. Walt has been a very successful pastor who is working with a team at engaging his church community in missional formation. We are delighted that Walt will be with us to share his experience of transitioning a church in a missional direction. Roxburgh, Branson, and Gibbs will also bring narratives of their pastoral work in churches.
  • Together we will look at the imaginative shifts required to innovate adaptive change in the local context.

What will you take away?
  • Practical skills that assist you to bridge the gap between a missional theology and the messy realities of leadership.
  • An introduction to a process of discernment and development for innovating missional life among the people with whom you are working.
  • Form a team of co-leaders across the country that share the same questions around practical ways of innovating missional church in the local context.
  • Hands-on resources and tools you can use in your context.
