Missional Schools Project
Twenty-two schools and seminaries have agreed to participate in the Allelon Missional Schools Project (AMSP) to discern how missional leadership formation can happen within theological education. This is a moment when many schools recognize the need to re-conceptualize theological education in relation to the practices of leadership formation for the church. Over the last sixteen months, Allelon has been in conversation and consultation with the Presidents and Academic Deans of each of the schools involved. The result has been a growing recognition of the need to address the institutional culture, faculty ethos, and theological curriculum of the schools in order to engage in missional leadership formation from the perspective of a missional theology. The project is a kairos moment offering a huge opportunity to affect the lives of church leaders for generations to come. This is a big project! It is one that no single group or organization can sustain alone. We will need partners to walk with us in innovating something that can change the nature of theological education and leadership formation in North America. We are convinced that we are shaping something of massive importance to the church. For more about the project and its background, we have made documents available for download. ResponsesEngaging in the ConversationAs well as introducing the project, this is a place to further the conversation around missional theology in theological education. To the left you will see several links to articles around missional theology. If you are not familiar with the missional conversation, please read Craig Van Gelder's introductory essay, Engaging the Missional Church Conversation as a Framework for Developing a Missional Theology. The other articles are responses to Van Gelder's essay, which moves the conversation further into the areas of theological education and leadership formation. We will periodically post content from a number of colleagues in the project that are designed to serve as conversation-starters. We desire this dialogue to be constructive and engaging in serving the intent of this project — missional leadership formation. Please feel free to share these articles and conversations with your colleagues. |
